Salicylic acid is oil soluble, it should be dissolved in a solvent first before adding to your formula, suggested solvents for salicylic acid: Ethyl alcohol, Propylene glycol, Glycerin, Castor oil, Sodium lactate. To prevent recrystallization, sodium citrate can be added to the solution.
To facilitate dissolution, you can first grind the salicylic acid crystals into fine powder, and then heat the mixed solution to 120-130℉ (48-54℃).
Salicylic acid works best at PH 3.5 - PH 4.0, you can adjust the pH using baking soda for higher or citric acid for lower PH levels.
